Desire-a-Bar dared Finns to put their desire on display in public. And naturally, that desire was rewarded with nothing less than ’A Bit Better’: Karl Fazer chocolate.

Background
Karl Fazer’s beloved chocolate is the most irresistible of desires, and believes that sometimes, you just have to give in to your desire. With the launch of a new brand concept, we set out to challenge Finns to surrender openly.
Insight
It’s no secret that Finns hold a reserved nature. In a country where silence is golden, personal space is sacred, and emotions are often kept beneath the surface, the idea of openly displaying intense desire feels foreign.
Idea
We brought Finns’ sweet desire to life on a scale too big to ignore. Those who let go of control and dared to give in were rewarded.
Execution
To get Finns to openly express their desire, we created Desire-a-Bar
Desire-a-Bar, a three-meter-tall Karl Fazer chocolate bar, was set up in the heart of Helsinki. The rules were simple: stand before it and give in to your desire — for what may have felt like an eternity to reserved Finns.
When Desire-a-Bar detected desire, the wrapper began to peel away, revealing a giant bar of chocolate no one could resist. It used AI-powered facial recognition, trained to detect desire in a person’s gaze and expression.
A real chocolate bar was dispensed right into the hands of those who gave in to their desire long enough. And for some lucky ones, the prize was even sweeter: a golden ticket granting a year’s supply of Karl Fazer chocolate.
"We wanted to remind people that chocolate is more than just a treat – it’s a moment of joy, a stress reliever, and a source of pure indulgence. By sparking a range of emotions through this fun experience, we aim to build deeper, lasting connections with Finnish consumers that endure well beyond the moment."Niklas Lindroos, Senior Marketing Manager, Karl Fazer
